Age-appropriate behavioral expectations are set for the students in this class to reinforce postive behavior in their various classrooms in kindergarten through first and second grades. We begin to set higher levels of focus on traditional practices such as bowing to show respect and exercising self discipline to listen as well as interact positively with other children and adults. We have more indepth and interactive discussions about appropriate timing to use karate in school and around the home. We also cover concepts pertaining to stranger-danger. Further instruction is given on how to block, punch, and kick as well as teaching basic martial art stances. The goal of a Tiny Tiger is to learn enough about the basics of martial arts at a young age that when the student transfers to the next level that they are better prepared. Key concepts during this instructional period include – personal fitness, confidence building through martial-arts, how to deal with bullying, self-discipline, and respect for self and others.

Students in this class are working towards an officially recognized rank as well as progressing towards earning a blackbelt in the United Karate Studios system. The learning environment in this class sets a tone that allows for fun learning the various aspects of martial arts. We work hard to maintain a energetic, light and fun atmosphere but also set more rigid behavioral expectations. Learning how to say no to drugs, deal with bullies, handle meeting strangers, and interact positively with adults in unfamiliar environments are all parts of our cirriculum. Children are exposed to sport aspect of martial arts and are given the opportunity to spar with other students while wearing protective padding. Progressing through various ranks requires varying levels of proficiency at certain technique and personal responsibility for developing technique is expected of the student. At certain rank levels, students are encouraged to participate in tournaments that are held on weekends throughout the year. When a young person is age-ready to transition into the Youth class, they have been prepared in this class to focus at being serious at training in the martial-arts.

Young persons who attend this class are trained in all aspects of United martial-arts. The student who attends this class can expect a rigorous aerobic workout while working towards their blackbelt. Learning of martial-arts forms as well as practicing sparring with other students is a regular part of the cirruculum. Age appropriate discussions about how to handle various self-defense situations take place along with practical application of techniques. Progressing through various ranks requires varying levels of proficiency at certain technique and personal responsibility for developing technique is expected of the student. The sport-aspect associated with all United Karate Studios is highly encouraged to further practicing what is learned in class. Students are invited and encouraged to participate in some of the other non-traditional classes offered (JuiJitsu and Kickboxing) to fully round out their training. A fun and safe training environment is provided along with a more traditional approach to martial arts training is set. A person training in this class is expected to make a transition into the Adult (16+ year old) class and be able to demonstrate the maturity and self-control expected of a young-adult.
